DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR STORY,
BUT YOUR BODY STILL REACTS AS IF THE PAST IS STILL HAPPENING.
You've probably spent years trying to understand yourself.
You've tried therapy.
You've meditated.
You've journaled.
You've explored spiritual practices.
And still...
you find yourself pulled into anxiety, shutdown, numbness, reactivity, hypervigilance, or disconnection.
Protective responses shaped by the past may still be getting activated in the present.
THE TRUTH
ABOUT TRAUMA:
Talk therapy can help you understand your story.
Self-awareness can help you recognize your patterns.
But trauma does not always resolve through understanding alone.
When your body is still bracing, shutting down, scanning for danger, or reacting as if the past is still happening, the work has to include the nervous system.
WHAT MAKES THE
SOMATIC INTEGRATION METHOD™
DIFFERENT?
Understanding matters.
AND
Your body also needs new experiences of safety, choice, and feeling supported.
Talking about what happened, understanding your history, and recognizing the ways trauma has shaped your life can bring clarity, meaning, and self-compassion.
But trauma does not live only in the story you tell about the past.
It can continue to shape your breathing, posture, muscle tension, emotional responses, relationships, and ability to remain present, even when you logically know you are safe right now.
You may understand exactly why you react the way you do and still find yourself bracing, freezing, disconnecting, pleasing others, losing your voice, or preparing for something to go wrong.
These are not signs that you have failed to heal.
They are protective patterns your nervous system learned when you needed them.
The Somatic Integration Method™ works with these patterns as they arise in real time.
Our approach brings together:
NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION
Recognize what's happening in your body while learning to remain present with more of your experience, so you can recover more easily after stress or overwhelm.
SOMATIC PROCESSING
Work directly with sensation, breath, posture, movement, emotion, and protective impulses, not only the story or explanation surrounding them.
ATTACHEMENT AND RELATIONAL REPAIR
Experience new relational patterns through attunement, secure connection, boundary repair, and co-regulation while strengthening your ability to remain connected to yourself.
We do not rush your system or force emotional breakthroughs.
You do not need to relive every painful detail or push yourself beyond what you can integrate.
Instead, we work gradually, helping your nervous system recognize support, develop greater flexibility, and discover more choice to respond to life.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?
Each session is shaped around you, your nervous system, and what feels most important at the time.
Real-Time
Co-Regulation
You don’t have to do this work alone.
We help you slow down, settle, and stay connected to what is happening in your body without forcing anything too quickly.
Education & Insight
Understanding still matters.
We help you make sense of your patterns so you can meet them with more clarity, compassion, and choice.
Guided Somatic Exploration
You’ll be supported to notice sensations, emotions, impulses, images, and protective responses as they arise.
Instead of getting lost in the same old story, we help you track what is happening in real time.
Empathic Witnessing
Healing deepens when we are safely met by another person.
We bring presence, attunement, and compassionate witnessing to what may have been carried alone for too long.
Meet Aaron and Alissa
A therapist couple. Two distinct practitioners.
One shared method.
At The AUM Institute, you will work one-on-one with either Aaron or Alissa. We do not conduct these sessions together.
What makes our practice distinctive is that we are not two unrelated practitioners sharing an office. We are partners, co-founders, and long-term students of nervous-system regulation, attachment, relationships, and somatic healing.
Together, we developed the Somatic Integration Method™, a shared approach combining nervous-system regulation, somatic processing, attachment repair, and relational awareness.
Although we each bring a different personality, therapeutic presence, and area of strength, our work is grounded in the same principles and carefully developed together
Between us, our work draws from:
• Somatic Experiencing® and trauma-informed practice
• attachment theory and relational repair
• nervous-system regulation and co-regulation
• couples and relationship work
• traditional contemplative and body-based practices
• decades of personal practice, professional training, and lived experience
Being a couple has also given us years of direct experience with the realities of relationship: closeness, conflict, vulnerability, family life, rupture, repair, and growth.
We do not present ourselves as having a perfect relationship or perfectly regulated nervous systems.
We understand that meaningful change develops through practice, by recognizing our patterns, remaining present through discomfort, communicating honestly, repairing disconnection, and gradually responding with greater flexibility.
That lived experience shapes the way we understand and support our clients.
Finding the practitioner who feels right for you
Aaron and Alissa each bring a distinct presence to this work.
You may already feel drawn toward one of us, or you may not know who would be the better fit. You do not need to decide before reaching out.
During your free consultation, we will listen to what you are experiencing, answer your questions, and help you choose the practitioner and approach that make the most sense for you.
Whomever you work with, you can expect a gentle, collaborative, and carefully paced approach that respects what your nervous system is ready to explore.
A PRIVATE, GROUNDED SPACE IN SOUTHWEST CALGARY
There is something deeply supportive about being in the presence of another regulated, attuned human. We are relational beings, so it makes sense that healing often deepens when we no longer have to carry everything alone.
For many people, in-person trauma therapy can make it easier to settle, feel supported, and work with the nervous system in real time. Being in the same room allows for a depth of attunement, and a level of presence that can be difficult to access alone.
Some sessions may include gentle somatic practices, body awareness, grounding work, or consent-based therapeutic touch only when appropriate and only with clear consent.
Appointments are available throughout the week, including evenings and weekends.
Online sessions are available and can be deeply supportive when meeting in person is not possible.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT LEVEL OF TRAUMA THERAPY SUPPORT
Some people need focused short-term support. Others benefit from a slower, ongoing process that gives the nervous system time to build greater capacity, flexibility, and resilience.
You do not need to decide which option is right before reaching out. We can explore that together during your free consultation.

"Aaron at The AUM Institute is an amazing somatic practitioner, caring and attuned. He is able to flow with whatever comes up, address it with effective exercises and questions and I always leave feeling more grounded. His energy is welcoming and low key, which helps me feel able to share vulnerably in my own way and time. Highly recommend!"

YOUR MIND KNOWS THE PAST IS OVER.
YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM MAY NOT.
TRAUMA THERAPY MAY BE FOR YOU IF...
- You feel like you've been stuck in survival mode for too long.
- You understand your past, but your body still reacts as if it isn’t over.
- You’re tired of coping strategies that help you manage, but don’t seem to resolve the deeper pattern.
- You’ve tried therapy, mindfulness, self-help, or personal development — and something still feels unresolved.
- You move between anxiety, shutdown, numbness, reactivity, hypervigilance, or disconnection.
- You want to feel safer in your body, clearer in your choices, and more present in your life.
- You’re ready for a body-based approach that works with trauma where it lives: in the nervous system.
You’re not broken.
It's not too late.
Your nervous system has been doing exactly what it learned to do to protect you.
But the patterns that once helped you survive may now be keeping you stuck.
Somatic trauma therapy can help you work with these patterns at the level of the body and nervous system, so you can move from surviving your life to feeling more present, regulated, and connected within it.

WHAT IS SOMATIC TRAUMA THERAPY?
It is a custom, body-based approach to integrating trauma by working with what is held in the nervous system, body, emotions, and relationships.
At The AUM Institute, our work is based on three core pillars:
Integration
Working with what your body has been holding.
Trauma can leave parts of us stuck in survival.
Integration helps those patterns complete, soften, and settle.
Reconnection
Returning to your body, self, and relationships.
Trauma disconnects us from our body, boundaries, needs, and others.
Reconnection helps restore trust where protection took over.
Awakening
Living with more presence, choice, and truth.
As survival patterns soften, more of you becomes available.
Awakening is the return of clarity, aliveness, and deeper self-trust.
This work isn’t a quick fix or one-size-fits-all protocol.
It is a relational, body-based process paced around what your nervous system can actually integrate.
