MOST MEN DON'T COME TO ME TALKING ABOUT SHAME OR ATTACHMENT.

They come because they’re angry, anxious or shut down. Maybe it's all three.

Their relationship keeps getting caught in the same painful cycle. Sex has disappeared, and they can’t shake the feeling that they are failing and flailing.

They tell me they’re carrying too much. That they're responsible for making it all happen.

They're losing their temper too quickly, struggling to follow through, or feeling increasingly disconnected from themselves and the people they care about.

AND UNDERNEATH,
I OFTEN SEE SHAME

Not the healthy kind that helps you recognize when you’ve crossed a line or hurt someone.

The kind that says:

I am not enough.
I am too much.
I am inadequate.
I am failing.
I am weak.

Shame becomes interwoven with your sense of who you are.

Then it shows up everywhere: under pressure, in conflict, at work, in sex, in relationships, and in parenting.

SHAME DOESN’T LOOK THE SAME IN EVERY MAN.

One man gets angry, defensive or controlling. Another stays busy, achieves, performs and proves. Another shuts down, avoids, procrastinates or disappears.

Another becomes the fixer. He pleases, appeases, over-corrects and changes himself or the people around him so he can feel okay again.

Many turn to substances, porn, work, sex, food, screens, or other compulsive behaviours to change what they’re feeling.

Different strategies. Same underlying struggle: losing yourself when the stakes feel high.

THE GOAL ISN’T TO CONTROL YOURSELF BETTER.

It’s to develop the flexibility and capacity to stay with what you’re experiencing without getting lost in anger, shutting down, fixing, pleasing or disappearing.

That includes the uncomfortable stuff. Fear, shame, grief, conflict and disappointment.

And it includes your power too. Anger, desire, pleasure, assertiveness, vitality and the ability to stand your ground without losing yourself or someone else.

WHAT MAKES THE
SOMATIC INTEGRATION METHOD™

DIFFERENT?

Together, we go beyond understanding why you react the way you do.

NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION

Learn to recognize anger, anxiety, shutdown, shame, or overwhelm earlier, and develop more capacity to stay present without immediately fighting, collapsing, fixing, or disappearing.

SOMATIC PROCESSING

Alongside the story, we pay attention to what is happening in real time through sensation, emotion, breath, posture, movement, impulse, thought, and memory.

ATTACHMENT AND RELATIONAL REPAIR

We work with what happens around closeness, conflict, boundaries, disappointment, sex, needs, accountability, and repair.

You learn to stay more connected to yourself while remaining present with the other person, rather than collapsing, appeasing, defending, or trying to control the outcome.

Aaron Patrick and Alissa King are Nervous System Regulation Therapists in Calgary

Meet Aaron

A male therapist for men who want more than coping strategies.

I work with men who are tired of repeating the same reactions in their relationships, work, sexuality, and lives.

My approach has been shaped by 20+ years of training, practice, and work in somatic trauma therapy, attachment repair, relational therapy, yogic practice, and my own experience as a husband, father of six, and man navigating many of the same pressures of life.

I’m less interested in helping you become a different version of who you think you should be, and more interested in helping you recognize and more fully inhabit who you already are.

 Understanding the Pattern

We explore how past experiences still shape what your system can hold, whether that is conflict, closeness, joy, pleasure, vulnerability, or intensity.

Guided Somatic Exploration

We slow things down and notice what is happening as it happens, whether that is sensation, emotion, memory, thought, tension, movement, an impulse, or something harder to name.

Relational Repair

Patterns shaped in relationship come alive in relationship. We notice what happens around trust, boundaries, closeness, needs, and repair, and create room for something different.

THE DEEPER ARC OF THE WORK...

Integration

Bringing to completion what has not yet been able to complete.

Trauma can leave parts of our experience and self unfinished. Integration brings attention to what remains unresolved so it can soften, reorganize, and become part of the present.

Reconnection

Returning to relationship with yourself, others, and life.

As protective patterns loosen, there is more room for boundaries, closeness, trust, expression, pleasure, and connection without losing yourself.

Awakening

Living with greater presence, freedom, and aliveness.

As less of your life is organized around protection, more of your vitality, curiosity, creativity, and presence becomes available.
