SOMATIC
THERAPY
CALGARY
Â
A different kind of therapy for people who are self-aware, but still feel stuck.
Â
Somatic therapy
can help you:
• integrate what the past left unresolved
• feel more grounded and at home in yourself
• turn insight into lived change
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
YOU FEEL LIKE SOMETHING'S OFF, EVEN WHEN YOU'RE DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS:Â
You meditate.
You journal.
You keep trying to change yourself.
You've tried therapy.Â
And still...
You feel overwhelmed, disconnected, reactive, or just empty.
Like you're missing something essential
THEÂ TRUTH
MOST THERAPY MISSES:
Talk therapy can help you understand your story.
Meditation can help you observe your inner experience with greater awareness.Â
But when protective responses shaped by the past are still being activated, insight alone may not create lasting change.
That’s because trauma isn’t just emotional or psychological.
It’s physiological and relational.
It continues through patterns in your nervous system, emotions, relationships, and sense of self.
It affects your ability to rest, connect, experience pleasure, and participate fully in your life.
YOU CAN'TÂ THINKÂ
YOUR WAY OUT OF THIS.
In fact...
All the talking and thinking are
probably making it worse.
We call it The Self-Improvement Trap.
This is where somatic therapy comes in.
We help you re-attune to the wisdom of your body.
We guide you towards processing what’s been stuck for too long.
So you can move through life with more choice, resilience, confidence, and aliveness.
WHAT MAKESÂ THE
SOMATIC INTEGRATION METHOD™ DIFFERENT?Â
Understanding matters.
Your nervous system also needs new experiences of support, safety, and choice.Â
Understanding your history, recognizing your triggers, and talking through what happened can be deeply valuable.
But insight does not always change the automatic patterns shaping how you feel and respond.
You may understand why you feel anxious, shut down, or overwhelmed and still find yourself bracing, disconnecting, pleasing others, losing your voice, or preparing for something to go wrong.
The Somatic Integration Method™ works with these patterns as they arise in real time.
Our approach brings together:
Nervous-system regulation
Recognize what is happening within you and develop more capacity to remain present, move through activation, and recover after stress.
Somatic processing
Listen to sensation, breath, posture, movement, emotion, and protective impulses, rather than focusing only on the story you tell about them.
Attachment and relational repair
Experience attunement, support, boundaries, co-regulation, and repair while strengthening your ability to remain connected to yourself.
Â
We do not rush your system or force emotional breakthroughs.
You do not need to relive every painful detail or push yourself beyond what you can integrate.
Instead, we work gradually, helping your nervous system recognize support, develop greater flexibility, and discover more choice in how you respond to life.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?
Each session is shaped around you and what you need at the time.
That said, here are some things you can expect:
Real-Time
Co-Regulation
A steady therapeutic relationship can help your nervous system experience something new.
Through careful pacing, attunement, and support, we help you notice activation or shutdown while staying connected to the present.
Â
 Understanding the Pattern
Understanding your history can bring clarity and self-compassion.
Together, we explore how past experiences shaped the ways you protect yourself, respond to stress, and relate to others.
Insight remains important. We also pay attention to how the pattern is showing up in the present.
Guided Somatic Exploration
You will be invited to notice sensations, breath, posture, movement, emotion, and protective impulses.
Rather than becoming lost in the story, we slow the experience down and listen to what your nervous system is communicating.
This can create space for unresolved responses to soften, complete, or reorganize.
Attuned Relational Support
Healing often becomes possible when your experience is met with care, curiosity, and respect.
We offer a therapeutic relationship in which your emotions, boundaries, needs, and protective responses can be noticed without judgment.
Meet Aaron and Alissa
A therapist couple. Two distinct practitioners.
One shared method.
At The AUM Institute, you will work one-on-one with either Aaron or Alissa. We do not conduct these sessions together.
What makes our practice distinctive is that we are partners, co-founders, and co-creators of a shared therapeutic method.
Together, we developed The Somatic Integration Method™, a shared approach combining nervous-system regulation, somatic processing, attachment repair, and relational awareness.
Although we each bring a different personality, therapeutic presence, and area of strength, our work is grounded in the same principles and carefully developed together
Â
Two practitioners. One shared foundation.
Between us, our work draws from:
- Somatic Experiencing® and trauma-informed practice
- attachment theory and relational repair
- nervous-system regulation and co-regulation
- couples and relationship work
- traditional contemplative, movement, and breath practices
- decades of personal practice, professional training, and lived experience
Being a couple has also given us years of direct experience with the realities of relationship: closeness, conflict, vulnerability, family life, rupture, repair, and growth.
We do not present ourselves as having a perfect relationship or perfectly regulated nervous systems.
We understand that meaningful change develops through practice, by recognizing our patterns, remaining present through discomfort, communicating honestly, repairing disconnection, and gradually responding with greater flexibility.
That lived experience shapes the way we understand and support our clients.
Â
Finding the practitioner who feels right for you
Aaron and Alissa each bring a distinct presence to this work.
You may already feel drawn toward one of us, or you may not know who would be the better fit. You do not need to decide before reaching out.
During your free consultation, we will listen to what you are experiencing, answer your questions, and help you decide which practitioner and level of support may make the most sense for you.
Whoever you work with, you can expect a gentle, collaborative, and carefully paced approach that respects what your nervous system is ready to explore.

SOMATIC THERAPYÂ MAY BE FORÂ YOU IF...
- You understand many of your patterns, but they still take over in the moments that matter.
- You notice yourself moving into anxiety, overwhelm, shutdown, numbness, reactivity, or disconnection.
- You want a therapeutic process that includes conversation and insight, while also listening to sensation, emotion, breath, posture, movement, and protective impulses.
- You are curious about what unresolved experiences may still be shaping how you feel, relate, and respond in the present.
- You are open to a gradual process built through awareness, repetition, relationship, and new experience.
- You want more freedom to feel present, connected, resilient, and at home in yourself.
WHAT IS THE SOMATIC INTEGRATION METHOD™?
Our somatic and relational method brings together three interconnected movements: Integration, Reconnection, and Awakening.
Integration
Bringing your fragmented parts into wholeness.
This is where you integrate trauma, decondition from old stories, and learn true nervous system regulation.
Reconnection
Returning to a healthy relationship with yourself, others, and life.
A natural result of Integration, you'll experience more stability and security in your connections with others.
Awakening
Living with greater presence, freedom, and aliveness.
Awakening is the growing recognition that you are more than your history, your conditioning, or the strategies that once kept you safe.
This work is not a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all protocol.
It's a carefully paced process that listens to what your nervous system is communicating while supporting unresolved patterns toward greater integration, flexibility, and choice.
Many of the most meaningful shifts continue between sessions, through relationships, parenting, conflict, creativity, work, rest, and everyday life.
